THE INSPIRATION OF FRIPPERY

Often, as I daydream, (note: NEVER while at work…) an inspiration comes to me usually in the form of one piece of an … oddment* lying next to another … oddment and an idea comes to me. And usually while I’m halfway finished with another brilliant idea…

The next time I am in ataraxia**, either lying in bed at 3am, or in the bath (similar to Archimedes), I will often run the constructability through my head including the rough dimensions, materials needed and the production process. This is when I will determine if it is a velleity*** or something I want to spend my time on before I begin to draw a schematic or sketch of the whigmaleerie**** in my head. (aren’t residual effects great?)

Then, I plan a time to begin this nonpareil*****. I’ll often mentally schedule it for an evening I don’t have plans or the next Saturday, but in actuality, I will be busy cleaning up remnants of my past project, see a piece that reminds me of my latest brainstorm and begin the task oblivious to the fact that I do not have the time to currently finish it.

WHERE THE MAGIC HAPPENS

But in full enthusiasm, I will begin until I encounter a creative roadblock or time constraint (often letting paint or glue dry). Fortunately, even if I have great intentions to complete it the next evening, my cat does not need to remind me every six months to finish it. But the next time I am straightening up, or looking for something, I’ll see it, get a flash of inspiration and enthusiasm ensues. And magically, one day, it is complete, often with several modifications dreamt up along the way. Then off to its semipermanent location, it is transported adjacent to my next future brainstorm!

Oh, the creative process at work! and no one to remind me that I’m an eccentric … although isn’t that how all creative geniuses are labeled? (Reference: Wile E. Coyote) Yeah, that’s how I perceive it. Hey, just let me live in my happy place being a nonpareil … OK?
